Frequently Asked Questions
Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is diagnosed through a series of specialized auditory tests conducted by an audiologist or other trained professional. These tests evaluate how well a person’s brain processes sound, especially speech sounds in different settings. Unlike standard hearing tests, which measure the ability to detect sound at different volumes and pitches, APD assessments focus on how the brain interprets those sounds.
Tests may include speech-in-noise tests, which measure the ability to understand speech amid background noise, and dichotic listening tests, which assess how the brain processes information from each ear. Additional tests, such as pattern recognition and temporal processing tasks, may also be used. The process helps identify specific challenges, enabling a tailored approach for managing APD. At Melody Hearing, we use these diagnostic tools to provide a comprehensive APD evaluation, guiding the development of personalized treatment plans to improve auditory comprehension.
