WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE HEARING TEST?

During the hearing test, you will be asked to adjust a volume slider until you can comfortably hear the sounds being played. The test is very user-friendly, with large clear images and written directions to help you navigate. To test your hearing, we will play you everyday sounds such as people talking, birds chirping, or the sound of a fan blowing. With each sound you’re able to hear, we’ll let you know what types of similar sounds you would be able to hear well, given your response.

Next, we will speak a word in an environment that might make it harder to hear. For instance, we might say “bus” in the middle of a crowded restaurant or “shoe” while a train passes by. We will ask you to select the word you heard said. You will have four words to choose from. There are no wrong answers. You choose the word that you heard. Answering truthfully helps us to know how clearly you are hearing the words that are spoken. At the end of the test, we will let you know how you did on each section and what this means about your hearing. If you might benefit from assistance with your hearing, we’ll offer options to help you.
